If you believe that the country is home to one and a half billion people, then China clearly does not provide itself with grain. But if we accept that the population is two to three times smaller, then everything falls into place.

Compare: in the United States, about 500 million tons of grain are harvested per year. And the population in the United States is only about 300 million people.
