It's hard for me to say how close my students are with devices and gadgets. Many have tablets, everyone has a smartphone. However, having taught since 1972, I noticed how the students' handwriting changed for the worse. But ugly handwriting in 9 cases out of 10 - it is an underdeveloped character, an underdeveloped psychotype … I'm not worried about how much good new devices have brought us, but plummeting educational level.
The point is that a university teacher is a person who drives nails into a wall. Since the 90s, more and more of these nails have been needed. But now the problem is simple: there is no wall, it needs to be rebuilt. True, until you build it, the student is already completing his bachelor's degree and we say goodbye to him.
The most offensive thing is that it was not the intellect that left, but striving for its development … Earlier, at the world mathematical Olympiads, we took first places. Now Japan and China are on the podium. I'm not talking about general erudition. My peers and I grew up on seven magazines: "Knowledge is Power", "Technology of Youth", "Around the World", "Science and Life", "Young Technician" and "Young Naturalist". Reading these magazines broadened my horizons.
But now children, for the most part, do not develop erudition. At the end of the last millennium, in the process of education, I cited as an example the development scheme of football (the transition to total football) and Western cinema. The current young people, even if they are fond of football, know nothing about its history. I constantly struggle with the temptation to ask young people, "What do you do in your free time?" Of course, there are very talented and intelligent children, but the education level of the crowd dropped dramatically.
And the latest technology, I'm afraid, played an important role in this fall.
